Mechanics of Pressure Washing
Home and Garden June 24th, 2008A pressure washing unit is a mechanical device that uses high-pressure water to eradicate mold, grime, dirt and mildew from various surfaces. It can be used for deck cleaning, roof cleaning, house washing and to clean other exterior surfaces like concrete and brick. A pressure washer that produces pressures of 4000 PSI or more can be rented or bought.
The most essential pressure washing unit is made up of a motor which directly drives a water pump through a high pressure hose and out the end of a wand or trigger gun.
Exactly like a garden hose nozzle is used to boost the out flowing pressure of the water, a pressure washer adds its own power to force high pressure, when a normal nozzle would restrict the flow. The pump cannot draw more water from the supply line to which the pressure washer is attached than that water source can provide; therefore, the water supply must be greater than the output of the pressure washer pump, so that the pump never be starved causing damage.
