Roof Cleaning Don’t Replace Your Dirty Shingles
Home and Garden June 24th, 2008Every day, homeowners all across the Midwest are replacing their roofs because of roof stains. Those nasty stains not only cause the shingles to lose their life expectancy, but cause a huge eyesore for you and your neighbors. In St. Louis roof cleaning is becoming more and more popular to remove black stains from roofs.
For a fraction of the cost, roof stains can be safely and gently removed from your roof, saving you from the huge expense of replacing the roof. When having a roof cleaning performed, be very cautious if a contractor tells you to pressure wash your shingles to clean them. A pressure washer can cause extensive damage to your roof, removing granules from your shingles.
Always make sure the contractor uses a low pressure application of detergents to clean your roof. When completed, a low pressure rinse may be needed to remove the brown streaks left behind from killing the mold and mildew.
This can be effectively done by using a pressure washer that produces multiple gallons per minute, but using no tip on the end. It’s much like a pressure of a garden hose. When cleaning roofs in Missouri, it may take a couple of applications to remove the algae from a roof.
