Posted by Todd on June 24th, 2008 Every day, homeowners all across the Midwest are replacing their roofs because of roof stains. Those nasty stains not only cause the shingles to lose their life expectancy, but cause a huge eyesore for you and your neighbors. In St. Louis roof cleaning is becoming more and more popular to remove black stains from roofs.
For a fraction of the cost, roof stains can be safely and gently removed from your roof, saving you from the huge expense of replacing the roof. When having a roof cleaning performed, be very cautious if a contractor tells you to pressure wash your shingles to clean them. A pressure washer can cause extensive damage to your roof, removing granules from your shingles.
Always make sure the contractor uses a low pressure application of detergents to clean your roof. When completed, a low pressure rinse may be needed to remove the brown streaks left behind from killing the mold and mildew.
This can be effectively done by using a pressure washer that produces multiple gallons per minute, but using no tip on the end. It’s much like a pressure of a garden hose. When cleaning roofs in Missouri, it may take a couple of applications to remove the algae from a roof.
Posted by Todd on June 24th, 2008 There are several options on the market today when it comes to window treatments. A popular choice is still faux wood blinds. Living in a hot and humid climate like Houston, creates challenges when it comes to durable window treatments. Blinds are a favorite among our Texas customers because they allow the homeowner flexibility in controlling the amount of light and privacy desired in a room. As a Houston remodeling company we recommend 2” faux wood blinds to our customers because they are a nice inexpensive alternative to plantation shutters.
Faux wood blinds are made of a durable vinyl type material that comes in several colors and sizes. The blinds come with a valance but still require a string for raising and lowering and opening and closing, which can be a disadvantage for some. They look like wood blinds without the maintenance. They will not rot, warp, fade or require painting or staining like real wood.
The blinds are very low maintenance, just dust regularly and for stains wipe with a soft cloth and warm soapy water for easy cleaning. Faux window blinds are a timeless, durable, attractive and inexpensive window treatment that can be enjoyed for years to come. A great window covering that doesn’t look cheap and classic enough for any decor.
Posted by Todd on June 24th, 2008 A pressure washing unit is a mechanical device that uses high-pressure water to eradicate mold, grime, dirt and mildew from various surfaces. It can be used for deck cleaning, roof cleaning, house washing and to clean other exterior surfaces like concrete and brick. A pressure washer that produces pressures of 4000 PSI or more can be rented or bought.
The most essential pressure washing unit is made up of a motor which directly drives a water pump through a high pressure hose and out the end of a wand or trigger gun.
Exactly like a garden hose nozzle is used to boost the out flowing pressure of the water, a pressure washer adds its own power to force high pressure, when a normal nozzle would restrict the flow. The pump cannot draw more water from the supply line to which the pressure washer is attached than that water source can provide; therefore, the water supply must be greater than the output of the pressure washer pump, so that the pump never be starved causing damage.
